1. Aimed at primary process
The core goal of a school is to offer good education.
Competent leaders feel the development of children as their primary responsibility. They know of the development in and the results of the pedagogical-didactical, subject content and organizational acting in the school. For creating a safe and valuable learning environment the leader guards the quality of materials, climate of the school and the internal pupil care system. On account of that the school leader gives shape and content to the support of the primary process, the educational development and the co-operation with parents / caretakers considering the needs, interests and ideas of pupils, parents.
2.Organisation development
Good education is a process of development.
Competent leaders are capable of developing a vision on education, upbringing and organisation together with co-workers, parents/caretakers and board.
This vision inspires and motivates them. Competent leaders set the objectives, realign and make sure that the organisation stays on track and realizes their aims.
3. Organisation policy and maintenance
Good education asks for a good organisation.
A competent school leader is a good manager who is able to make and safeguard the long term, mid term and short term planning, secure the financial, legal and technical management of the school and its staff based on the vision of the school.
4.Entrepreneur ship
Education is a mutual responsibility.
Competent leaders work with their environment in an active way based on flexibility, adaptability and creativity.They anticipate developments, deal purposefully with legislation and regulations, demands of parents, social institutions and other organisations that influence the school.
5. Intra personal
Education is complex and is enacted in a complex reality.
Competent leaders have power of thinking: the capability to collect sufficient information and to assimilate, to understand complex situations, to enlighten, to convince others,handle and prevent problems and questions. They are critical and creative, always looking for divergent ways of solutions and are determined.
6. Autonomy
Education is not a neutral activity.
Competent leaders act from their professional identity and are governed by personal and professional values. They are fully aware of their leading part and their social responsibility. Conditions for this are professional and social self-assurance. This requires self-reflection, self-evaluation and self-development (self-directing).
7. Interpersonal
Good leadership is, above all, good communication.
The power of action and the efficacy of leaders is highly defined by the way they communicate and maintain relationships. Competent leaders foster a positive atmosphere and the influence and effects their behavior has on others.
8. Managing professionals
Good education is a team responsibility.
Based on a shared vision and with clear goals in mind competent leaders enable their colleagues to excel and to serve the organization considering their abilities. They are focused on learning- and development possibilities, both on individual, team and organisation level. They pay attention to their co-workers, foster team spirit and the will to co-operate and send out trust and share leadership.
